April 12th, 2005Ok:
Dan Rather is a news reporter. He had a story which was written and researched, and presented it as news. It turned out that some of the evidence was faulty, and he really took it in the ass for it, and everyone despises him now…
George Bush is a president of a large superpower. He had a story which was written and researched, and presented it as a case for war (he had lots of stories, but lets focus on this one for now). It turned out that some of the evidence was faulty, and no one really cared. He certainly didn’t get in any trouble.
So. Why is that? Was Dan Rather the victim of some sort of unconcious backlash, the object of the venting of hundreds of millions collective guilt about a habitual liar for a president?
It just doesn’t make any sense, and the more I think about it, the more absurd this all becomes. I feel like a giant lie has been somehow executed on me, with the side effect of also fooling the rest of the country.
What is really going on in these peoples heads that the above scenario played out to the state where we are today…
