HOSTS
March 24th, 2006Do you hate cookies that track your movements on the internet?
Hate ads, popups, intellitxt, flash, all that other crap which distracts from the meat and potatos of what you are after?
The answer is your HOSTS file…
Hit Start, hit ‘Run’, copy and paste this and hit enter: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc (or here if you have W2K : C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc)
Doubleclick on the hosts file, and select ‘Notepad’ from the list of applications…
Now, click on this: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.txt (check out their site for more information about HOSTS: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm)
Finally, copy the text from the big file to your HOSTS file, and hit save on your HOSTS file. Close everything (including this browser!) and start over. It doesn’t completely disinfect the internet, but it is close!
NOTE: You may want to disable the DNS service if a large host file slows your computer. Check out the mvps.org link above for more information! They have a batch file, just save it to your desktop, run it once, and delete it, fix you up proper!
