hello
Suzan_>
Welcome to Sony Online Support. I will be glad to assist you.
Garrett>
I spoke with someone a little bit ago about this
Suzan_>
Hi Garrett.
Suzan_>
I'm Suzan.
Garrett>
'keith' said that the drivers were on the CD
Garrett>
the CD says otherwise
Garrett>
I just need a link for the USB drivers
Suzan_>
Garrett, I will be glad to assist you with getting the USB drivers.
Suzan_>
What is the Operating System that is installed in your computer?
Garrett>
excellent
Garrett>
windows xp...
Garrett>
does the program on the CD which 'installs' the driver install
windows xp drivers?
Garrett>
it explicitly states every other version of windows, and fails
to mention XP
Garrett>
I would assume that the Windows 2000 drivers would be fine
Suzan_>
The Windows XP has native driver support.
Garrett>
but I can't tell if it would install the drivers with 2000 not
being XP and all
Garrett>
yea, thats the story
Garrett>
lets assume for a second that it doesnt
Garrett>
and I need to get ahold of the driver
Garrett>
what do I do?
Suzan_>
It is not required to install the USB driver or the software
supplied with the camera to transfer the images to your
computer.
Suzan_>
Once you connect the camera to the computer you will
be able to view a removable drive under My computer.
Garrett>
pretend that I am already familar with all of that
Garrett>
how can this be the year 2006, with the internet and Sony
selling billions of dollars of high-tech equipment
Garrett>
and the website doesn't have a single driver as far as the
eye can see...
Garrett>
http://www.sonydigital-link.com/DIME/downloads/downlo...
Garrett>
I found that, seems to be a europe version of sony
Garrett>
claims that it is some sort of USB driver for all sorts of
windows, including Xp
Garrett>
but doesn't say which cameras...
Garrett>
a heck of a lot more than the US site at least
Garrett>
so,that is where I am, and I need some help
Suzan_>
Please give me a moment while I verify that for you.
Garrett> I bet...
Suzan_> Garret thanks for waiting.
Garrett> np
Garrett> lets assume that I do need the USB driver for
Windows XP
Garrett> can I use the Windows 2000 one?
Garrett> and if so, where do I find that?
Suzan_> You can install the USB driver from the supplied CD.
(Garrett begins to rip hair out slowly, sobbing and screaming
at the same time)
Garrett> for XP?
Suzan_> Garrett, it is not required to install the USB driver
to transfer the images from the Camera to the computer
with the Windows XP Operating System.
Garrett> yes
Garrett> I know that, that assumse the USB driver is
pre-installed
Garrett> lets assume that it isn't for a second
Garrett> and I need to download it
Garrett> or re-install it from an install disk (like the
windows xp install disk)
Garrett> I would need to know what file it is
Garrett> what the name is, at least
Garrett> or, I would need to download the driver from
the manufacturers website...
(Garrett's brain is throbbing with rage, wondering why
are these dipshits even pretending to not just be
reading off of the fucking sony.com website...)
Suzan_> Since the Windows XP Operating System has
native USB support, the USB driver for Windows XP is not available.
Garrett> FUCK YOU SUZAN FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU
(I’m just kidding about that last line, that sweet relief existed
only in my head)
FYI: the real slim shady is available online, FUCK YOU SUZAN
AND KEITH, worthless piles of rotting shit. USBDRVEN.EXE
can be found at the link I provided:
http://www.sonydigital-link.com/DIME/downloads/download…
And it does list Windows XP as one of the supported systems.
Seriously, that conversation made me wish I had a baseball bat
and was standing in the fucking call center in India smashing
shit left and right screaming ‘FUCK YOU SONY, FUCK YOU’ at
the top of my lungs…why do they even bother paying those
people?
EDIT: it turns out that the USB driver which was provided
at the Sony site wasn’t enough to install the drivers. I
actually needed the original .inf files from XP, so I
downloaded Microsoft Virtual PC, installed XP Home in
a virtual PC on the laptop here, installed Hamachi to
easily network my virtual PC on the laptop to the real
laptop, copied over the entire inf directory, pasted
into the laptop and insto-presto, what was broken
now works. Of course, this only happens if you
delete your inf thinking you’ll never need it again,
perhaps I’ll post it compressed here for posterity, eh?
