A letter to Ebay.

May 8th, 2006

Message: Ebay's feedback system is broken.

It seems the majority of sellers hold feedback hostage, even after the buyers portion of the transaction has been successfully completed. Ebay should require the seller to leave feedback within 14 days or automatically give the seller negative feedback. Within 14 days of auctions end, either the buyer PAID or the buyer DIDN'T PAY, either of which the seller would leave feedback regarding. If the auction takes more than 14 days to successfully complete, there is SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG.

I have purchased dozens of items which I never received feedback for, even though I pay via PayPal within hours of auctions end. And I'm tired of it.

Ebay is a gigantic, wealthy corporation. Ebay can't take 1/2 a day to review its website functionality and improve the user experience? How long has this been going on?

Between this problem and the rampant bypassing of fees with outrageous shipping costs…pathetic.

hey, just wanted to let you know I really enjoy reading your blog entries. You have a lot of really good points, things I’m glad someone says, and you also make me laugh. So keep it up! Tammy

I could not agree with you more. I have been burned both directions. Buying and selling. At this very moment I have bugged someone twice to leave me feedback after I have already left them feedback for a quick a prompt payment. I could understand if the item sucked, but they haven’t complained. Hell I’ve even asked if there was something wrong, but nothing. I know it takes a whole 10 seconds of time to jot a quick remark. That could be 8 seconds too many for some.
