America, down the tubes…
June 7th, 2006But its not Gays, religious types, Republicans, or liberals at the helm of this disaster.
Its the CEO's who move their businesses overseas.
I read this online today:
It is not just writers like Prestowitz who are sounding alarms. Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of GE, reflects on the growing competence and cost advantage of countries like China and even Mexico and says, "It's unclear how many manufacturers will choose to keep their businesses in the United States." Intel's Andy Grove is more blunt. "America … [is going] down the tubes," he says, "and the worst part is nobody knows it. They're all in denial, patting themselves on the back, as the Titanic heads for the iceberg full speed ahead."

Problem is everyone marches after the almighty dollar with no regards to anything else. Today first, screw tomorrow. Everyone is shooting themselves in the foot to make as much money as possible today, with zero regard for the shambles that will remain tomorrow.
The more you move overseas, the lower your costs are…good thing you can sell cheaper and make more money, because…the less money there is being put back into the US citizens who should be the primary consumers, the less money they have to buy your goods. But, if you can manage to maximize profits today, you can make your buck and…if all of the people who used to buy your stuff are now poor, eeking out an existance in some shithole…isn't that too bad, because everyone else was doing it too, oh well…and your company tanked, but hey, you got an awesome severance package, and you sold all of your stock while it was still worth something, fuck all of those people who worked long and hard for the company…suckers anyway…
Sometimes, manufacturers are faced with a dilemma. The workers want more money. It would costs X over 10 years to give them the raise they want, or Y (which is A (cost to move now) - B (savings over the next 10 years)). Y is less than X? Easy, move the factory. Ramifications? Fuck the ramifications, if our profits are slightly below expectations, our stock goes down, our wealthy shareholders get scared or irate, and all hell breaks loose.
Right there is the problem. Instead of taking a long term view, everything is 'today'. 'Today', our stock must increase in value until the shareholders are ready to raid the corporate structure for all its worth. 'Today', our profits must increase year after year, regardless of whether that means laying off thousands of US citizens. 'Today', this statement is false.
I love my extra inch!

You can’t cherry pick.
June 6th, 2006I was reading an article over on AlterNet, where a guy being interviewed about his belief that organized religion must come to an end (a view I strongly support, seeing as how organized religion has been 'stamping out' (to put it nicely, murder and rape to put it bluntly) competition for over 2500 years: archaic Jews destroying high places and preventing other rituals from sharing their religious space, for example).
Anyway, where was I. Oh yes, cherry picking. You can't cherry pick the truth. (stares pointedly at the government)
You can't cherry pick the truth when it comes to religion. (stares pointedly at the http://godhatesshrimp.com/ website)
If God says to stone people to death in the Old Testament, you can't fucking ignore it! The Bible is the word of the fucking almighty God! Perfect in every way! Supreme! The one true God! Each and every word in the Bible is 100% deity! If you pick, choose, and interpret, you might as well not even bother. You might as well live by common sense and be a good person in and of yourself (stares pointedly at the world around)
Honestly, the sooner we ditch organized religion, the better. Look at what happens when nut jobs unite. Its scary. Unlike those who don't think religion is harmless and most Christians are good souls, I don't harbor those delusions. Christians, Jews, Muslims, any faith: you are going to have the majority fucked up in the head, wacked out of reality, utilizing a 'supreme being' to justify their INSANITY. The stronger someone believes in God, the farther I want to sleep from them at night…
I read The DaVinci Code recently. I don't see what the big deal is. The Bible and other religious propaganda are the biggest shams foisted upon civilization, ever, bar none. The DaVinci Code is simply a story. The Bible is simply a story. Christians arguing whether Jesus was divine or just believed really strongly boggles my mind. Whether half of the ideas presented in The DaVinci Code are based in facts or corrupted fiction is a nice mental exercise, and not much more. Defending Jesus as a divine construct is a nice exercise in lazy thinking, and not much more.
Gullible doesn't even begin to describe it. Honestly…here is the definition of gullible, courtesy of Google: naive, easily deceived or tricked, fleeceable…
The scriptures historic validity? What a joke. Something that SOME OTHER wackjob wrote down 2000 years ago…we're lucky if it hasn't been re-translated and transcribed half-a-dozen times…THAT, the random writings of some wackjob in some dank cave…THAT, I'm going to believe as the truth and the 'Bible', the word of God, the supreme gift of our Master.
Exactly what in the Bible is the 'big shit', the 'big deal', the 'holy shit, that is some good stuff, lets make sure to pass that on'. Seriously. Where are the Cliff Notes? Fucking Genesis? Jettison the myth, and how much of the Bible is left? Jettison the shrimp hating, and how much actually means something? Jettison the crap, and condense it down to a couple notes of common sense of how to live a good life in a sane and rational society, and I'll stop HATING ORGANIZED RELIGION.
I want to tear it all down.
Apparently, Jesus spent all of that time and effort simplifying and ridding Judaism of the claptrap, only to have his followers descendants rebuild the entire pile of shit a hundred years later.
