Pollywogs!

Pollywogs!
Sounds—possibly musical—heard in the night from other worlds or realms of being.

Another week gone by, another pile of things I’ve del.icio.us’ed for the blog…

May 11th, 2007

My sister, her husband and their son spent a nice couple weeks at my parents house, kept things pretty busy. It was nice seeing them as usual, and their son is really starting to almost be a real person. Both Jess and Majed were full of interesting stories that I’d kill to have posted to my blog, but despite my insistence that they were treasure troves of unique and interesting viewpoints and stories, I doubt you’ll ever get to read anything but a bastardized and crippled reconstruction out of the murky depths of my damaged short/long term memory…so how bout some pictures?

The lighting on this picture was very weird, with the bright backlight from the sun and the flash on the foreground, looks like a photochop…

Our trip to see my mom’s side of the family

I fart in your general direction:

“Alberto Gonzales has learned this lesson well. Normally, cabinet officers who have been caught in multiple obvious lies have to either resign or else seriously try to defend themselves. But Gonzales realizes this is just tradition. Unless House Democrats have the votes to impeach him, he doesn’t have to do anything. He can just mock them to their face and there’s nothing much they can do about it.”

This would be a lot funnier (is funnier even a word?) if the cop went to jail for a month:

“I think we’re dying,” he said in the 5-minute tape, obtained under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act.”We made brownies and I think we’re dead, I really do,” Sanchez continued.

He told the dispatcher he had never made marijuana brownies before, but had previously used marijuana.’

Must have been some good fucking brownies…

More Marijuana, a small extract (call it a gram of hashish):

While a clear increase in cancer risk was seen among cigarette smokers in the study, no such association was seen for regular cannabis users.

Even very heavy, long-term marijuana users who had smoked more than 22,000 joints over a lifetime seemed to have no greater risk than infrequent marijuana users or nonusers.

The findings surprised the study’s researchers, who expected to see an increase in cancer among people who smoked marijuana regularly in their youth.

“We know that there are as many or more carcinogens and co-carcinogens in marijuana smoke as in cigarettes,” researcher Donald Tashkin, MD, of UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine tells WebMD. “But we did not find any evidence for an increase in cancer risk for even heavy marijuana smoking.” Carcinogens are substances that cause cancer.”

1984-style, but with new technology:

“Discussing the breakup of an alleged terrorist plot to attack U.S. soldiers at New Jersey’s Fort Dix, Newsradio 850 KOA host “Gunny” Bob Newman said on his May 8 show that “every Muslim immigrant to America who holds a green card, a visa, or who is a naturalized citizen [should] be required by law to wear a GPS tracking bracelet at all times,” and that the government should “bug their places of work and their residences” and monitor “[a]ll mosques and community centers.” Newman added, “If they don’t like the idea, or if they refuse, throw their asses out of this country.”

If the Global War on Terror doesn’t provide enough guaranteed repeat business, you could always fire the cold war back up

Peace in the Middle East? Don’t worry, its just a ruse:

U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor Elliott Abrams on Thursday told a group of Jewish Republicans that the efforts the United States is now investing in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is aimed at lessening the pressure from Arabs and the Europeans, who weren’t happy with the United States in its past approach.

Abrams was quoted by sources present at the meeting as saying Arab and European states want to see that there’s at least an attempt or energy being exerted by the U.S. to move the peace process forward.

Abrams explained that the talks are sometimes not more than “process for the sake of process.”‘

Great…you’re doing a heck of a job, Abrams, maybe they’ll give you an award…

Dog humps goose…if this is NSFW where you are at, you need to tell your corporate masters that this isn’t Puritan New England circa 1650…

That is it for now, but boy do I have a pile of shit left to process
