Deeply moving, profoundly disturbing…

July 9th, 2007

I just finished watching a movie called “A Crude Awakening“. It really, deeply hit home just how different the future 10, 20 years from now is going to be.

The staggering quantity of practically free energy we are now consuming, and the breakneck pace at which we are hurtling towards this energy cliff…it is terrifying that we are fully aware of what is happening and yet doing so very fucking little to change things.

I guess the main problem is that the major energy companies are scared shitless that it is inevitable that they are going to lose central control over energy (a resource that is very locally available to nearly any location thanks to the sun) and they have decided as a corporate policy to ride OUR CIVILIZATION AND PLANET INTO THE GROUND rather than allow the government to begin implementing policies of conservation and massive, tremendous retooling of our economy to meet the challenge which is before us.

What do they care? They’ll all be dead in 20 years…they can’t take this money and affluence with them, no point in conserving or even worrying about the future…

Talk about Driving Anarchy…the shit hasn’t begun to hit the fan…what kind of people are Americans going to be? Are we going to stand up and use responsible technology to guide the rest of the world through this perilous span of time, or are we going to devolve into a barbaric, warlike people intent on monopolizing through brute fucking force the few remaining ‘easy’ energy stores as long as possible while subjugating the rest of the world to what amounts to rape: poverty and slavery to feed our pampered lifestyle?

Everyone SHOULD watch this DVD, especially those who have children and want them to have a decent future.

I am almost speechless because I am so angry that so many people are just ignorant fucks who are only worried about right here and now. How much money can we make, how many cars and houses can we own, how many vacations can we go on, how many more humans can we produce?????

How much more can we use and consume and burn and destroy? How much more can we fuck up this planet?…(and leave NOTHING for our children, for the future?)

Consume, consume, consume…that is what America is all about right? That is the American dream…right? The house, the white picket fence, 2.5 kids, a dog a cat, some fish, some rodents, maybe a bird, 2 or more vehicles, a summer home, an RV, vacations, and all the material items we can possibly fit into our house, then the garage…and if it doesn’t fit in those 2 places…it goes in storage. Our precious stuff, our precious junk which we can’t possibly live without. Give me more, I want more, I need more!!!

It’s all bullshit!! At this point I am fighting so hard to rage against the machine, convert myself from what I know, from what I’ve grown up believing…”this” will make me happy…having this, buying that, living here…it will all fulfill my needs, or rather, wants. Cuz the truth is that I don’t need all that crap at all…I’ve been programmed to believe that what I “want” must be what I “need”…but this just isn’t so.

It is a hard cycle to break and it will take time but in the end I think it will be worth it…even if I’m not around to see the results.

Seriously people! (Please note: this is not aimed at anyone in particular)
Take off the rose-colored glasses, get your fingers out of your ears, and stop repeating “La la la I can’t hear you, la la la, can’t hear”
These situations WILL NOT fix themselves. We have to rise to the occasion, be responsible and make some sacrifices so that there may be future generations to come.
    Ignorance is no excuse!
