Fungus that feeds directly on radiation. You know, like how plants feed directly on sunlight, just a different wavelength. A wavelength that just happens to be terribly deadly to just about everything else known to man. Beyond the basic science fact, the article is mostly conjecture and speculation, but an interesting collection of ideas nonetheless…

File this into the ‘I Wish’ catagory:
New York, NY (Rotters)- In a vote of 3,100,000 to 100,000 yesterday, the members of a massive nationwide progressive political action group voted overwhelmingly to place a second ad in the New York Times this weekend condemning the U.S. Congress for wasting time condemning them over a previous ad condemning General David Petraeus as “General Betray us”. The ad implies that both houses of Congress, in particular the leadership, are “Ass-kissing little chickenshits”, a term which has been used to refer to General Petraeus by his superiors in the past.
The inspiration for this satire was the fact that Congress took the time to condemn me, personally, along with the other three million or so progressives who make up MoveOn. Fuck you too, Congress. I noticed that Casey voted to condemn me. Fuck him. Fuck Specter too. Minimum effort cunts.  They have time to fiddle while Rome burns, eh?

So this is the reason I had nightmares of nuclear bombs going off as a child in the early eighties? My internal soothsayer was setting off alarms non-stop about something I had no control over, and the result was an intense fear and hatred of nuclear weapons and The Man in general?
Bush/Cheney are the reason I sometimes have post-apocalyptic dreams/nightmares these days?

Found a quote from Slashdot on Reddit. Cried. Resolved that life was worth living. Oh, Liberty…what a frail young thing you are, how quickly the tyrants wish to reclaim your power so recently handed out freely to every man, woman and child…
“The point is that we should not have to justify ourselves to anyone, period. The police are not our masters, the government is not our master. We are each, our own master; this is what Liberty means. By requiring us to present any sort of papers or justification for us to be somewhere where we are allowed to be (especially a public place), the government and specifically the police are attempting to proclaim superiority over us. This is absolutely wrong.”

The cornerstone of this post, ‘the inspiration’ if you will:
“Dear United States of America,
Please turn off your television, stop playing world of warcraft and please get mad. While we were distracted a bunch of criminals of the lowest caliber have stolen our country.
By waving the flag of fear in our face they have in our name commited acts of attrocity. The America that our fathers, grandfathers and forefathers fought and died for is near death.
They will scream from their bully pulpit that this is not the case and that America is stronger than it ever was, but they are only concerned about making themselves rich at our expense. They will send our children to foreign lands to fight their oil wars and grow their war profits.”
I am not one to rock the boat…I am one to rock the boat. Hmm…
I prefer smooth sailing, calm waters…
Why do I feel I should be driving this horse and carriage to anarchy?

Belated. Kelley and I have been kicking around the idea of a regular entry to the old blog. A weekly post, a little thing, just a little reminder that change isn’t a bad thing I guess, something small we can do to drop pebbles in the pond, hoping the ripples spread far and wide. I didn’t post it on Friday, hadn’t realized Kelley had sent me a finished product…so belatedly here is the initial entry of ‘Fight the Man’:
Friday 9.21.07 Fight the Man, Save the Earth
“All natural institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.”
~ Thomas Paine
Green-living Tip:Â Use cloth grocery bags/totes (reusable)Â instead of using paper or plastic (disposable = wasteful).
I (Kelley “eco-freak” Socling) purchased my bags from Eco Bags a couple months ago and I really enjoy using them. Unfortunately, I have forgotten them a few times and had to use plastic (icky-poo) but I’ve now learned to keep them by the door, and I may even purchase some small ones from Gaiam to keep in my purse.  They do take some getting used to, and people may stare, but in the end we walk out of the store with smiles on our face knowing that we are making a difference.
You can too.

“Change don’t come at once, it’s a wave…”
~ Eddie Vedder, Undone
Speaking of using reusable grocery bags, the last time we were shopping at Weis we saw a middle aged woman also using reusable bags. It was a strange thing, thinking that someone else actually made a choice, a decision, a small one…to make a small change. It was a strange feeling that washed over me, akin to euphoria. I felt like a revolutionary, a co-conspirator, and I’d just been flashed the sign by a passer-by. I think the feeling was multiplied a thousand-fold due to seeing such a thing occur in Jersey Shore, a veritable den of inequity when it comes to moderate, sensible rationality.
It was like seeing a flower bloom in a desert.
