Going with the flow…
February 14th, 2008So I’ve been pretty stressed out recently. But I always try to stay like a leaf in the breeze: aware of where I am and what is going on around me, but not fighting things I can’t change. So this is a story of being the leaf.
Today after work we went to Lock Haven. I needed a haircut and an outfit moderately acceptable for a pretend prom, and Kell needed a dress moderately acceptable for a pretend prom. I went to a new ’salon’, and then we went to the Salvation Army’s Thrift Store.
After I got over the sensation of ’stealing’ from poor people, and then recognizing and accepting the familiar tinge that disjointed minds bring to a location, I relaxed and began looking about a bit. Talked for a few minutes with a disabled guy in a wheelchair, he wasn’t all there but was pleasant to talk to. Saw an unusual woman who would shake her head in an unusual fashion when you looked in her direction. Kelley found a ‘oh yea’ dress and a couple others, and took the couple others to the fitting room and didn’t like any. She found me a suit which included the vest and pants. It looked nice and when I tried on the jacket, it was nearly perfect. The pants looked like a good fit too. I was pretty stoked. She went back and got her crazy looking ‘oh yea’ dress and it fit very nicely (except for looking like she was going to pour blood over the proceedings at the end of the night). When we went to check out, it turns out that adults clothes were $2 a piece, so we got everything for $8 since they were having a sale today. I was pretty suprised but had the presence of mind to give the lady working the register $15 and stutter something about the rest of the money was for a donation tin next to the till.
When I got home, I tried on my suit and I felt like Barney from How I Met Your Mother. I actually said out loud “I feel awesome!”, and then “I feel, wait for it…awesome.”
And here I had been in a minor sweat about putting that shopping off to the last minute, and everything fell into place like it was meant to be.
That is how I like life. Automatic. Been a while since anything has felt automatic, it is refreshing. Oh, that and the lady who did my hair made some comment about being suprised at how old I was. I am a sucker for compliments.

I rather enjoy posts like this as they are few and rare.
I can only wait to see some pics.
No matter how you feel about people and things, you are a very generous man. I would be willing to wager that you were the first customer to put that much in the tin in change in many moons.
…one thing about leaves, some blow in circles and others travel down the path…
Glad your trip was so successful. Can’t wait to see your new digs.
I was reading your post and wondering what you were stressed about…hoping that there was no fear of serial killers involved because obviously it was all in jest…
but then I read the end of your post about the beautician telling you how young you look for your age, so…
watch your back at prom! Maybe Kel won’t be the one covered in pig blood. (more maniacal laughter!)
PS.. Seriously, how fun that you both found awesome prom outfits! I can’t wait to see everybody all “tricked out”!!!
WooHoo it’s FRIDAY!!!!!!!!
Can’t wait to see everyone at “Prom” tomorrow!
