Obama in Williamsport, 2008

April 19th, 2008

So, Obama came to Williamsport yesterday. When I “got the email”, I asked Kelley and she said she’d like to go too. Tickets were available in downtown Williamsport, so she went down and stood in a very long line for about an hour to get tickets. By the time she got to the front, they went from handing out four to handing out two. We had some friends who expressed interest in going, and luckily she chatted with some folks in line with her who later were nice enough to chase her down the street to give her an extra ticket. Our friend Melissa also managed to find someone who had an extra ticket, and so a rabid core group of Obama supporters got to see and hear our future President in person!

His speech was very well received by the crowd. For the content, I suggest you not trust my recollection but instead read:

This is…amazing.  This ought to be running on TV 24/7 until Hillary drops out.

And then, someone ought to create one against Bush and Cheney until both of them are removed from office…

Obama is my last hope…

April 13th, 2008

I just had an awesome rant about New York bankers and the Washington politicians in their pockets. It was pointed, emphatic and resolute.

Obama better not let me down. You, me, all of us. We are depending upon him. For everything. I know what would make things better.

I hope you do to.

UPDATE: No one is above the law.

A roundup! part 4…

Getting robbed blind for eight years:

The bigger problem is that the now-finished boom was, for most Americans, nothing of the sort. In 2000, at the end of the previous economic expansion, the median American family made about $61,000, according to the Census Bureau’s inflation-adjusted numbers. In 2007, in what looks to have been the final year of the most recent expansion, the median family, amazingly, seems to have made less — about $60,500.

Yes, the Bush Administration has literally robbed us of the past eight years.  Not only did we not ‘get raises’ as business was booming, but he also ‘maxed out our credit cards’ with his tax cuts and MASSIVE deficit spending.  They are “Conservatives”?  In what?  Civil liberties?  Sure as SHIT isn’t in fiscal spending…which just so happens to be massively funneled into a huge money laundering scheme I like to call “The Illegal Occupation of Iraq“…

And he thinks he and his buddies are just going to skip town once he leaves office, that they are going to get away with their crimes?  Nixon was impeached for less, a couple illegal wiretaps and some domestic spying:

Richard Nixon and the nation have passed a tragic point of no return. It now seems likely that the President will have to give up his office: he has irredeemably lost his moral authority, the confidence of most of the country, and therefore his ability to govern effectively.

Of course, the public does have a personal responsibility for some of this (beyond having enough people vote for him to ‘be elected’ twice).  Simply saying “I was lied to” (while being entirely true) doesn’t explain this:

The price had dipped to $212,000, after steadily rising for a year, and Fox put 15 percent down, his life savings. From Chase Bank, he got a so-called 2/28 adjustable-rate mortgage, which meant that for the first two years he would pay 7.5 percent interest and then a higher rate for the remaining 28 years. He knew that he might not be able to afford the higher rate, but as many home buyers did at the time, he assumed that two years down the road his house would be worth significantly more, and that he would be able to refinance. Fox thought he had entered the market during a slight downturn, which, he figured, made it a great time to buy.

You do not gamble your life savings on a guess.  Let me repeat that:

You do not gamble your life savings on a guess.

So, I’d make the Bush Administration and the corporations who’s cocks they suck about 95% responsible, and the public 5%.

Oh, and the Bush administration, in addition to being common criminals are also fucking sadists.

Alright, I believe I’ve covered the impeachable offenses: those that continue to outrage me every fucking day that the culpable, contemptible and vile members of the Bush Administration walk free.

Solar is starting to pick up some steam:

“Five hundred megawatts — that’s substantial,” said spokesman George Douglas of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. “Projects of that size begin to show that solar energy can produce electricity on a utility scale, on the kind of scale that we’re going to need.”

The Edison rooftop project will place photovoltaic cells on 65 million square feet of commercial building roofs in Southern California. The cells will generate as much as 250 megawatts of electricity — enough to power about 162,500 average homes, based on the utility’s estimate that one megawatt would serve about 650 average homes.

“These are the kinds of big ideas we need to meet California’s long-term energy and climate change goals,” Schwarzenegger said in a statement. “If commercial buildings statewide partnered with utilities to put this solar technology on their rooftops, it would set off a huge wave of renewable-energy growth.”

Now we just need to expand this to a national level.  And include residential structures.  And have started it fifteen years ago.

I always think “too little too late”…it rings through my head like a fucking gong of doom…

Mind enhancing drugs, not just caffeine anymore.   This Piracetam sounds interesting, I’m going to have to “get me some”.  As you can see from my broken English, my mind is in dire need of supplementation…this game (while amazingly simple) is confounding me!

You know how good and cool Obama is?  Hillary is as evil and uncool in an inverse fashion.  I recently had to remind someone that if Hillary LIES about landing under sniper fire, then recants her lie saying that she was tired from lack of sleep, and yet also says that she is the one you can trust at 3AM, THERE IS A REASON ALL OF THIS SOUNDS FAMILIAR.  HILLARY CLINTON IS FUCKING GEORGE BUSH!  And I don’t mean that in the amusing way, I mean literally, she is the reincarnation of that slimy cocksucker who will say anything to get elected, FUCK THE TRUTH.  Is that REALLY what we want, more lies?

Allow me to be juvenile for a second.  I hope it does not blunt the force of my previous statement.

A roundup! part 3…

April 6th, 2008

Beautiful day here, what a glorious Sunday afternoon…

A glowing new NIE on Iraq:

You know, when those peksy things called ‘facts’ intrude into your reality:

Though the latest NIE on Iraq was delivered to Congress on April Fools’ Day, you’ll probably never get to see any part of it. The Bush administration decided that the public has no need to know what intelligence agencies think about the state of a country the US invaded and occupied five years ago.

That’s hardly unexpected. A few weeks back when the Pentagon delivered it’s latest quarterly happy talk, “Measuring stability and security in Iraq” (PDF), it did so with minimum fanfare. Quarterly reports have to be published by law, NIEs do not. And just to make sure that everybody understands that there’s no real need to publish this Iraqi NIE, the administration let it be known that it isn’t really an NIE at all.

How embarrassing the last NIE was.  Looks like the Bush administration has made sure we don’t ever again know what is really going on behind their closed doors!  We’ve always been at war with Eastasia.

Republicans hate the law:

Pesky facts, pesky laws…how tiresome this democracy thing must be for them…

The Yoo “Torture Memo” is just the latest and most dramatic example of the Bush administration’s adversarial relationship with the law and the Constitution.  Republicans don’t see the law as the foundation of a healthy nation, to be upheld and protected, they see it as an obstacle - to be evaded, ignored, twisted, and exploited.

The Bush administration didn’t just use John Yoo’s memo to justify torture in violation of the Geneva Conventions and the Bill of Rights - they pressured Congress to legalize it and to suspend habeas corpus.  They ignored FISA, then pressured Congress to make their warrantless wiretapping legal and grant their teleccomplices retroactive immunity.

We’re one goose-step closer every day, huh Cheney?

The very best thing about Obama:

Spoiler alert!

But I’ll even take it a step further. Because the greatest thing about Obama isn’t really about Obama at all, per se. It’s actually about, well, us.

This is the great revelation: We still got it. The collective unconscious, the deep sense of inner wisdom, that intuitive knowing that borders on a kind of mystical proficiency, where millions of people can actually look beyond rhetoric and media spin and merely feel the presence of something great in the room? Yep, still there. Who knew?

I feel the same way.  That we’re fighting back against the Bush Administration is a testament to the remains of our democracy.  That our government is helping us NOT AT ALL will ring down through the ages.  You’re just as guilty as Rumsfeld, Pelosi.  When you walk by a rape and do nothing to help, you are as culpable as the original offender.

South Park 2.0.  I enjoyed the shit out of this episode, and it is very nice that this link has links to the other videos.  I’d never seen most of these (my attention span for a video clip is all of five seconds…if it doesn’t get interesting by then (or if I’m not actively trying to gain something from the video) I yawn and move on…) so it was nice to at least see what I am not missing…

CIA planes, not just good for carrying people to be tortured in foreign countries any longer!

It seems that one of the planes logged on this list of “CIA Prison Planes” has been in a little accident - It crash landed in Mexico after running out of Jet fuel en route to the US. The authorities were more than a little surprised when they found four tons, yes you heard me right, four tons of cocaine on board.

Must be nice to work for the Ministry of Love
