Pollywogs!

Pollywogs!
Sounds—possibly musical—heard in the night from other worlds or realms of being.

A short note to the President on National Opt-Out Day.

November 24th, 2010

Mr. President.

As a patriot who is highly interested in maintaining our valued civil liberties, I am highly discouraged by your administration’s attitude towards security of our airlines.  The current policy of privacy and civil rights violation does not make airline travel safer.   It simply adds to the torrent that is slowly eroding the public’s stamina to resist improper government intrusion.

If you are interested in the best fashion we currently have available to secure our airlines, I’d like to direct your attention to Israel.   As abhorrent as many of their national attitudes and actions are, they are serious and professional about airline security while maintaining their travelers freedom, privacy and dignity.  This is a good initial read: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-harris/what-israel-can-teach-the_b_408720.html

I realize that according to the DHS I am classified as a “domestic extremist” because I object to the “security theater” currently taking place in our airlines.   I am a simple citizen who is honestly interested in airline safety and want our country to do the best job it can while maintaining our noble heritage and the accompanying citizen’s rights.

Hopefully you’re interested in the public good as well, and not just lobbyists pushing invasive body scanners.   Please, reign in the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration.

I see I forgot an apostrophe, corrected above.  My apologies to Mr. Obama.

A short note to American Express…

So, I’m sure what happened here is my account balance accrued interest and the interest is applied on the account all at once, at the end of the billing cycle.  However, as a consumer I do not give a flying fuck about the credit card companies and the methods by which they charge for their services, I simply wanted to pay my card off in full:

Last week I paid my balance off using your online system.  Five days later, while my balance due on the card was $0.00, I was hit with a finance charge for $1.50.  I’m sure the fact that paying off the card DOESN’T ACTUALLY pay off the card is one of many tricks credit card companies have to squeeze more money out of people.  I’m sure you have some elaborate and convoluted secret method for actually paying off a credit card.  I do not appreciate and am uninterested in such trickery, however.
You have two choices at this point:  you can remove the finance charge or I will cancel my account and you’ll lose any further interest charges I may have accumulated.
It is your call if that $1.50 is really that important to you.
